IV Hera
Thron'd in the bosom of cerulean air,
The race of mortals is thy constant care.
Orphic Hymn, ca. 300 BCE – 150 CE
Hera was the queen of the gods, and the especial goddess of women and marriage. Although not portrayed to advantage in myth, she was deeply revered in practice and her veneration was widespread, with temples from Egypt to Italy. She presided over the destiny of nations as well as people.
